“Discover Music Again”
Posted on November 17, 2008 - Filed Under Inspiration
I was watching TV with my family over the weekend and this ad came on. It is a 60 second spot, so pretty long as far as commercials go. When it was over, my sister turned to me and said, “That’s a good commercial.” I agree.
It’s called “Discover Music Again” and it’s for Sirius satellite radio done by BBDO Toronto.
When was the last time you discovered something new?

I love this ad. As soon as it started, I was hooked and so curious to see what it was for.
Great ad! and thumbs up to BBDO for picking a difficult and very relevant theme: discovery.
The slices of life that they depict are very strong and relevant to everyone since we’ve all been through childhood and teenage discoveries!
However, it’s a tall order to attempt to appeal to everyone with this concept of childhood and teen memories which are clearly different for all of us. That’s where they did a decent job featuring a lot such as the first time you have sex? …for those who have ;D
Personally, I cannot forget what it was like to discover the joys of going on a canoe trip for the first time!
I had a discussion last night with a friend about how some advertisements get our attention and make us think, but don’t necessarily inspire us to buy the product.
I think this ad is one of those….for me anyway. I love how it makes you think about all your experiences, but I’m not going to go sign up for Sirius satellite radio.

Yeah, it’s a good ad. It definitely develops an emotional connection.

They certainly go through quite a cross section. But I think that their target is adults … most of whom have had a first dance, first crush, first hockey game. And even if not every scenario applies to you, there is going to be at least one that evokes a fond memory.

It depends what the point of the ad is. If the point of the spot is to make keep Sirius at the top of your mind during the holidays, I think it does the trick. But a TV spot is rarely going to make you go out and buy the product, especially if there is no initial need for it. The key here is to keep Sirius in your mind and let it enter into your consideration set as a holiday gift instead of a digital camera or an iPod.
I first saw this commercial a couple weeks ago, but since then I was curious to find this music that evoked my emotion. Anyways, searching this i found this blog which makes me so delighted that someone else feels the same way.
I think with everyday we make a new discovery and by making an ad based on this everyone can relate. I really havent found a commercial that I enjoy so much as to watch it over and over again on youtube.
