“I was adrift for 47 days.
Accompanied only by despair, and my delirium,
One day I thought my Ex-Girlfriend was coming to save me,
and then somehow I was in Venice,
I thought even a sea monster was following me,
and I even believed my daughter had come to take me home,
But in reality the wind came and blew me into the shipping lanes,
so it was nature that saved me.”
This is an ad for Timberland’s “Earthkeepers” program. Basically, the company is trying to rally people who are a little more than your typical eco-conscious consumer. Not quite Greenpeace quasi-militant hippies, but a couple steps back from that. The ad presents an interesting story that is well shot and well told. It would be cooler if it was a true story.
I know what your thinking. I call bullshit on this green-washing. But then I started to think about their core target market. Their original target market. It was people who loved the outdoors. And then I saw this video.

Simple. Honest. Direct. Now I think they’re legit. Very cool storytelling in the ad. Way to back it up with credentials online.
