Get Out of Your Cube!

The stark reality is that you can’t sit down at a desk and think of the perfect solution to a problem, a new innovation or a great idea. Some of our best ideas come at the most random times in the day. When you’re in the shower. When you’re on the subway. When you’re watching TV.

That’s because the stimulus from whatever activity you are engaged in allows you to relax and engage the problem organically. It allows your brain to look around and make seemingly random links that, in turn, become great insights.

The point is, that staring at this often fails to inspire:

Staring at this has a better chance:

(Whistler awesomeness)

It’s simply due to a greater influx of stimulus to draw from for inspiration. So, I challenge you to get off your ass and go for a walk. Jump off a cliff. Get lost in your own city. You won’t think of something new being bombarded by seeing and doing the same stuff you’ve been doing all year.
