Ode to a Notebook

So we all have good ideas at different times in the day. Some people are toilet thinkers. Their ideas just come to them while they are on the can. Some people are pub thinkers. Some people come up with their best ideas when they are asleep.
The point is that we must be equipped to capture our ideas at whatever point in the day them come at us. I’m sure we have all had instances where we have forgotten the greatest idea that has ever popped into our heads … because we thought we’d remember, then had a few pints.

For those pub thinkers, napkin sketches are the best! There is no feeling that is more creative and impassioned that drawing your idea for someone at the pub as part of your explanation/pitch.
The problem is that I’ve had my fair share of napkin sketches in a pub thinking that they were coming home and then I loose them when I was my jeans. My advice? If you a scrap paper note taker, remember to empty your pockets when you get home and stuff everything into a binder.

Personally, I think the best way of capturing the moments of inspiration is to carry a notebook with you. Of course, now that we’re in the digital age with a computer or cell phone on us at all times, you might want to try using Google Notebooks if you’re someone who is constantly plugged in.
