Rethinking The Modern Zoo
Posted: July 6th, 2009 | Author: Christian | Filed under: Cool Ideas | 5 Comments »I stumbled across these pictures while reading Fast Company. They are from the Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna. This summer its animals share their pens with an installation created by artists Christoph Steinbrener and Rainer Dempf that reflects the degradation of animal habitats.
It flies in the face of the conventional way that we view animal habitats. It will influence the children that come to visit the zoo. It serves as a startling argument for change.
I like it. It goes against the norm to deliver a message that breaks through. It’s a good educational tool, it’s great art, but it’s also great advertising.

I like. Very Banksy.
Yeah, it’s dope. Apparently the artists (Christoph Steinbrener and Rainer Dempf) are going around trying to get other zoos to do the installation art across Europe.
Very cool. It makes it look like the animals are taking over.

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, it kind of looks a little post apocalyptic.
This is brilliant and impactful. It’s easy for a lot of people pretend issues don’t exist if they don’t see or experience them. This puts it in your face and shows the harsh reality. It kind of says “Look what YOU’re doing!”
